Brown Comments on Repossessions on Visit to Wales

Thu, 22 Apr 2010

On his first campaign trip to Wales Brown declared that Labour’s steering of the economy had saved Britain from great economic catastrophe.

He said: "If you think back to two years ago, you thought recession would slip into depression, you thought thousands more jobs would be lost than have been lost, you’d have thought there were going to be many more mortgage repossessions and business failures."

However, he continued to say that Labour had in fact prevented many of these things happening.

In addition, he said there are 1.3m people who are working in Wales which is not a source of complacency for Labour.

Brown stated that it makes Labour more determined to do more to increase the number of available jobs in Wales .

He said that he did not want thanks from the Welsh. He wanted them to know that Labour is bothered about what happens in Wales.

When criticism was thrown at Brown as to why Labour had not been to Wales earlier in the election campaign, he confirmed that it was unfair to say so as Labour had had a Cabinet meeting there last July, a first in the history of British politics.

Despite Nick Clegg's overall best performance on the three way televised head to head debate, he declared that when he is goes around the country it will be about the policies British people want.
