Property repossession can be traumatic

It can be a deeply traumatic experience for people to have their home repossessed, it has been suggested.

Ceri Dunstan, spokeswoman at Shelter Cymru, said the threat of being moved out of a property can place enormous strain on a family, Wales Online reports.

The industry figure explained an individual could find him or herself on the verge of such action for a number of reasons, including reduced hours of work, illness or redundancy .

She noted: "We see so many people at risk of eviction or repossession who tell us they thought it could never happen to them."

And it can be especially hard for individuals to cope if they are deemed to be ineligible for assistance from local authorities.

Ms Dunstan claimed many residents find themselves in this situation, while numerous others do not even get as far as submitting an application.

Organisations such as Shelter - which was founded by the Reverend Bruce Kenrick in 1966, who had established the Notting Hill Housing Trust three years earlier - simply do not know what happens to these people, she went on to point out.
