Wigan is currently experiencing a hike in repossessions, new figures have shown.
Statistics released by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) revealed possession claims by landlords rose 20 per cent between December 2010 and the same four-week period in 2011 - and such movement correlated with data provided by the Wigan branch of the Citizens Advice Bureaux (CAB), Wigan Today reports.
According to the CAB, activity on the County Court helpdesk relating to such issues climbed by 48 per cent during the same timeframe, while 575 possession claims were handed out by Wigan County Court by proprietors last year, with 415 of these resulting in a claim being issued.
Chris Harris, the district manager of Wigan CAB, noted the service is working hard in order to keep keywordrepossession numbers to a minimum.
The industry figure explained: "We operate a County Court help desk, provide financial literacy advice and support to those threatened with homelessness."
Despite the rise seen in Wigan, the Northampton Chronicle and Echo recently reported that the MoJ findings suggested the repossession threat in Northampton is on the wane.
