Salford appears to be in a repossession crisis, with high numbers of homes being taken from owners in the region.
Figures from both Salford City Council and Shelter have highlighted the extent of the problem in the north-west city, the Salford Star reports.
According to the local authority, the area witnessed a 61 per cent increase in received notifications for potential possession notices in September 2011 compared with the same period 12 months earlier.
Tom Togher, the chief officer at Salford's Citizens Advice Bureau, said: "This is a housing crisis ticking time bomb ... We are concerned that these benefit reductions will make an already bad situation even worse."
And according to a report from Shelter - which was founded in 1966 - more than 1,400 households found themselves in court in 2011 facing the threat of eviction.
This marked an eight per cent jump on that recorded in 2010 and placed the region in the ten per cent worst performing regions in the country.
Moreover, at least 13 of every 1,000 abodes in the city are facing a repossession claim at the moment.
